Sherrell Faulkner becomes 11th transgender person murdered in 2017 in US
- Sherrell Faulkner was found barely alive next to a dumpster last November in what is known as a gay-friendly neighborhood in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The 46-year-old, who had been brutally assaulted, died from her injuries last week (16 May) and has become the 11th transgender person murdered in the US in 2017.
No arrests have been made in the murder.
‘Our hearts are heavy with the news of the death of Sherrell Faulkner … the victim of this tragic violence,’ said Ames Simmons, director of transgender policy at Equality North Carolina.
‘We are facing a national epidemic of violence with eleven trans people, many of them transgender people of color, murdered in 2017.
