Make medicine blind, like justice

Make medicine blind, like justice -  Will a doctor not treat a patient because they disagree with the latter’s political views, vocation, or religious beliefs? Surely if these are the criteria based on which a doctor chooses their patients, the system is greatly flawed. I started my career in a part of Mumbai which was akin to turn-of-the-century New York, rife with rival gangs fighting one another for business or control. The stories I heard from the house staff would amaze me; they sounded like west side story. The factor common to all these rival gangs was me — the doctor. They’d all come to see me to get some or the other ailment treated. Horrible criminals, I was told, but to me they were always respectable and fair and generous. It did not matter to me what business they had, I was in no way concerned with that.
