As sovereign entities, they are not necessarily bound by the Supreme Court decision, leaving many in the precarious position of trying to decide whether to make the hot-button issue part of their traditional law. "Tribes don’t have to follow Obergefell. Tribes should, unless they have a good reason not to," said Robert Clinton, a professor specializing in tribal law at Arizona State University’s Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law.

A poll of more than 400 Britons with at least $1m (£800,000) in liquid assets in addition to their homes found that 78% thought Britain’s decision to leave the EU would have a “positive effect” on their financial plans. Nick Tucker, UK head of UBS Wealth Management, said many of the bank’s clients were anxious about the effects of Brexit on their finances but most of the richest of the rich were “now taking a more positive view”.
